John R. "Goody" Goodrich, 48, of 50 Greenwood Street, Gardner, died unexpectedly, Thursday, December 18th in Heywood Hospital, Gardner.
John was born in South Boston, on October 5, 1960, the son of the late John R. and Anna (D'Agostino) Goodrich.
Prior to retiring in 2004, John was a Corrections Officer, employed by NCCI Gardner, for 20 years. He was a member of the State Tactical Team as a sniper and also trained K-9 units.
John graduated from Xaverian Brothers High School, Westwood, with the Class of 1978.
John was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary, Gardner.
He was a United States Army Veteran, and received the Parachutist Badge, the Army Service Ribbon, the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon and the Expert Qualification Badge. John loved his Country and was very Patriotic.
He was a true outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time at the ocean, and just being on the water. He loved his Harley Davidson, enjoyed music and was a collector of firearms.
He leaves one son, John R. Goodrich of Gardner; two brothers, Paul Goodrich and his wife Carmen of Upton, and James Goodrich and his wife Theresa of Dedham; one sister, Carolin Goodrich of North Attleboro; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 30th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 1:00 p.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery, Dedham at a later date.
Calling hours in the funeral home will be Monday, December 29th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
