John "Scott" Fontaine, 49, of 79 Halford Street, Gardner died unexpectedly on Thursday, August 4, 2011 in UMASS Memorial Medical Center, Belmont Street, Worcester, peacefully, surrounded by his family.
Scott was born in Gardner on June 16, 1962, the son of Rene L. and Claire H. (Cormier) Fontaine of Gardner.
Critically injured in an accident at the age of 14, Scott was a testament to the strength of will mixed with a keen sense of humor.
He graduated from Gardner High School with the Class of 1981.
Scott was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church in Gardner. He was a member of the Crystal House and the Napoleon Club in Gardner, as well as the North Central Chapter of the Massachusetts Head Injury Association.
Scott traveled extensively with his family visiting cities and National Parks throughout the United States, and recently returned from a trip to California where he celebrated his 49th birthday. He enjoyed spending recent winters in Florida. Scott's hobbies included computer games, billiards, shuffleboard, riding his bike and playing Texas Hold 'Em.
Besides his parents, Scott leaves one brother, Steven P. Fontaine and his companion Susan Oman of Gardner; one sister, Lisa J. Greenwood and her husband Kevin of Gardner; two nephews, Alex and Brandon Greenwood of Gardner; one aunt, Rachel Gooley and her husband Sheldon of Maine; three uncles, Omer Cormier and his wife Virginia of Westminster, Gerard Cormier and his wife Katherine of Templeton and Alfred Cormier and his wife Theresa of Templeton; one great uncle, Maurice Martel and his wife Ruth of Vero Beach, FL; several cousins and friends. Scott will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, August 9th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner at a later date.
A calling hour in the funeral home will be Tuesday, August 9th from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
