John R. Flagg, 64, of 739 Daniel Shays Highway, Athol, died peacefully Sunday, September 20, 2015 in Heywood Hospital of Gardner following a three year courageous battle with cancer.
John was born in Fitchburg on May 8, 1951, the son of Charles R. "Bucky" and Betty (Snow) (Flagg) Roussell.
He received his GED in 1984 and later attended Mount Wachusett Community College of Gardner.
John was a machinist employed by L.S. Starrett Company of Athol for six years, retiring in 2014. He was previously employed by H & R. Manufacturing Company of Gardner.
John was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fitchburg.
He enjoyed fishing, was a classic car enthusiast, loved corvettes, and was an avid fan of all New England sports.
John leaves his fiancée, Claudette LeBlanc of Athol; his mother, Betty Roussell of San Jacinto, CA; one son, Jeffery J. Flagg and his wife Sharen of Gardner; one daughter, Jennifer A. Leger and her husband David of Leominster; one brother, David Flagg and his wife Yolanda of Quartz Hill, CA; one sister, Carol J. Marden-Whittier and her husband Courtland of Athol; three grandchildren, Jeffrey J. Flagg, Hannah Leger and Nicodemus Leger; two stepchildren, Steven Doiron and Lisa Doiron-McDowel; several step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his father, he was predeceased by his half-brother, Charles Flagg.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 3rd at 12:00 p.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner at a later date.
Calling hours will be held Saturday, October 3rd from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
