John A. Deveau, 91, of Gardner, died peacefully Thursday, January 2, 2025, in Gardner Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Gardner, after a period of declining health.
Born in Gardner on October 23, 1933, he was the son of the late Anthony and Julia (Boudreau) Deveau. John was a United States Army Korean Era Veteran serving from 1953 to 1955, where he received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the German Occupation Medal. He was employed by Stop & Shop for 22 years until his retirement. John loved to be involved civically within his community during his younger years, serving in various roles within the City of Gardner government, including the School Committee and City Council, where he served as both a Ward and Councilor at Large and Mayor of Gardner.
John was a member of the Acadien Social Club of Gardner. He enjoyed working on puzzles, ice skating, and going out to breakfast. John also greatly enjoyed talking with various people and talking about politics.
John is survived by his three sons, Mark A. Deveau of Rockport, James A. Deveau of Gardner and John A. Deveau of Gardner; two daughters, Sherrie L. Deveau of Bolton, CT and Judith M. LeBlanc of Gardner; five grandchildren, Joshua, Andrew and Nicholas Deveau, and Jacob and Tyler LeBlanc; two great-grandchildren, Greyson and Hailey LeBlanc; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Jeannette M. (Robichaud) Deveau; a brother, Robert Deveau; and a sister, Dorothy Melanson.
Calling Hours will be held Monday, January 6, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon, MA.
