John R. Bonner, 81, of 51 Hospital Road, Baldwinville, and formerly of Hubbardston and Randolph, died peacefully Sunday, July 26th in the Baldwinville Nursing Home, Baldwinville, following a long illness.
Born in Boston, MA on December 12, 1927, he was the son of the late John and Alice (Farquharson) Bonner.
Prior to retiring in 1990, John was employed by GTE of Needham, MA as a Production Control Manager for 25 years.
John graduated from Jamaica Plain High School, Jamaica Plain, MA, with the Class of 1945. He attended Northeastern University in Boston and received an Associate Degree in Business Management.
John was a U.S. Navy WWII Veteran and received the WWII Victory Medal. John was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
He had a true fondness for nature and all animals. John liked to spend time traveling and camping.
He leaves his wife of 54 years, Mildred C. (Goddard) Bonner of Baldwinville; three sons, John R. Bonner and his wife Laura of Ashland, Michael R. Bonner and his wife Ellen of Phillipston, and Stephen D. Bonner of Franklin; two sisters, Mary Elliot and her husband Robert of Boca Raton, FL and Bernadette Elliott of Foxboro; one sister-in-law, Lorraine Bonner of Concord; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. John was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara Elaine Bonner; one brother, James Bonner; and two sisters, Barbara Bonner and Betty Busa.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 1st from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be at a later date in Mt. Benedict Cemetery, West Roxbury, MA.
Calling hours in the funeral home are Friday, July 31st from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
