John "Jack" R. Berthiaume, 58, of 164 Main Street, Otter River, died unexpectedly Sunday, June 17th on arrival at Heywood Hospital, Gardner.
He was born in Worcester on January 31, 1949, the son of Arthur H. Berthiaume and the late Ruth (Ferguson) Berthiaume.
"Jack" was a prison guard captain employed at North Central Corrections Institute in Gardner for 22 years, retiring in 1996.
He was a member of V.F.W Ovila Case Post 905 of Gardner,and was a member of its Honor Guard;. the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie #747, Gardner, The American Legion Post 129, Gardner and was an associate member of The Knights of Columbus, council #396, Gardner.
"Jack" enjoyed gardening, gambling, hunting and fishing. He loved spending time with his children and having fun with friends. "Jack" also enjoyed spending time in his jacuzzi.
He was a Vietnam War U.S. Army Veteran and served from 1968 to 1970.
His wife of 34 years, Nancy M. (Hill) Berthiaume died November 13, 2003.
He leaves his father, Arthur H. Berthiaume of Worcester; a son Chad M. Berthiaume of Templeton; 2 daughters, Sheri L. Berthiaume of Caribou, ME and Julie A. May of Templeton; 2 brothers, Arthur Berthiaume of Oakham, and Carl Berthiaume and his wife Deborah of Worcester; 2 sisters, Gloria Bryant and her husband Paul of Worcester, and Ruthanne Epstein and her husband Jon of Oxford; 9 grandchildren, John Castonguay, Michael Shaw, Anita Castonguay, Desiree Shaw, Danielle Castonguay, Mariah May, Crysta Berthiaume, Haley Callahan and Joshua May; his mother-in-law, Doris (Boucher) Hill of Auburn;aunts, uncles, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by a brother, George Berthiaume.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 20th at 12:00 p.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park Cemetery, Paxton.
Calling hours at the funeral home are Wednesday, June 20th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
