John A."Grumpy" Allain

April 20, 1936 — February 28, 2010

John A. "Grumpy" Allain, 73, of 1256 Williamsburg Place, Daytona Beach, FL for the past 10 years, and formerly of 40 Highland Avenue, Baldwinville died suddenly, Sunday, February 28th in his residence.

Born in Gardner on April 20, 1936, he was the son of the late John H. and Olive (Query) Allain.

John was co-owner with his wife, Clara, of Cote's Market in Otter River, MA for 11 years, retiring in 1999. He was previously employed by Gardner Creamery of Gardner as a milk deliverer, and was a truck driver employed by Grossman's. John was also a school bus driver for 30 years for Hardings Garage of South Ashburnham.

John was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, Gardner.

He loved the outdoors, and spent much of his time camping, walking, feeding the birds and riding his bicycle. He enjoyed watching The Lawrence Welk Show and the history channel on television. John was an avid sports fan. He most enjoyed spending time with his family.

John leaves his wife of 54 years, Clara M. (Bernard) Allain of Daytona Beach, FL; two sons, Michael J. Allain of Fitchburg and Richard S. Allain and his wife Jenny of Baldwinville; three daughters, Linda M. Martel and her husband Richard of Fitchburg, Kathy T. Dupuis of Gardner and Donna J. Adams and her husband Jack of Orange; one brother, Robert Allain and his wife Alice of Orange; nine grandchildren, Angela Loper, Heather Adams, Samantha Adams, Sarah Adams, Jennifer Dupuis, Stephanie Dupuis, Ashlynn Allain, Alec Allain and Jason Allain; five great-grandchildren, Alyssah Spofford, Jameson Loper, Kayla Adams, Logan Biouain and Johnathan Stasukelis; seven nieces, five nephews and several cousins.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 9tth from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.

Calling hours in the funeral home will be Monday, March 8th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
