Joanne M. Barrett

Joanne M. (Canu) Barrett, 79, of Gardner, died peacefully Sunday, December 25, 2022, in Heywood Hospital, Gardner, after an illness.

Born in Gardner on August 12, 1943, she was the daughter of the late John and Florence J. (Fiandaca) Canu. Joanne was a Floor Worker employed by Garlock Printing for many years prior to her retirement. She was previously employed by Simplex Time Recorder and GEM Industries.

Joanne was a parishioner of the former Sacred Heart of Jesus Church and a parishioner of Annunciation Parish/ Holy Spirit Chapel. She enjoyed going to flea markets and yard sales where she would collect all sorts of nick-nacks. Joanne also loved cookbooks, which she used to always put out a new meal on the table. Joanne’s greatest joy and love was her family, cherishing the special times together.

Joanne is survived by her husband of 35- years, James A. Barrett of Gardner; a daughter, Lisa Cyr and her husband Don Sagamore Beach; two stepsons, Sam Barrett and his wife Natalie of Gardner and Brad Barrett and his wife Jess of Royalston; three step-grandchildren, Isaac, Kaylee, and Kamryn Barrett; a brother, Ottavio Canu and his wife Lily of Gardner; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by two brothers, John and Carlos Canu.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Gardner Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, and Heywood Hospital for their loving and compassionate care.

Funeral Services will be held Sunday, January 15, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA. Burial at St. John’s Cemetery, West Street, Gardner, MA, will be held in the spring.

Calling Hours will be held Sunday, January 15, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
