Joan E."Pat" Aalto

Joan E. "Pat" (Dora) Aalto, 76, 9 Brigham Street, Hubbardston, died Wednesday, January 7th in St. Vincent's Hospital, Worcester following an illness.

Born in Templeton on March 19, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Evelyn (Brooks) Dora.

Prior to retiring in 1990, Joan was a cafeteria worker for several years at both the Hubbardston Center School, Hubbardston and Quabbin High School, Barre.

She was a graduate of Templeton High School, Templeton with the Class of 1950.

Joan was a 4-H sewing teacher. She enjoyed sewing, homemaking, spending time with her grandchildren, reading, birds, gardening and doing crossword puzzles. Joan was the first pregnant woman in the country to undergo open heart surgery at Mt. Auburn Hospital in Cambridge.

Joan was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Tauno Aalto, who died June 24, 2007.

She leaves two sons, Peter H. Aalto and his wife Margaret of Hubbardston and Steven T. Aalto and his wife Louise of Gardner; four daughters, Kathy S. Bogaard and her husband Hugo of Hubbardston, Laurie A. Drouin and her husband Thomas of Winchendon, Karen E. Lesneski and her husband David of Gardner and Sandra J. Sisco and her husband Thomas of Hubbardston; three brothers, Raymond Dora and his wife Corinne of E. Templeton, Cornelius Dora and his wife Barbara of Phoeniz, AZ and Peter Dora and his wife Karen of Gardner; two sister, Judith Truehart and her husband Gerald of Athol and Martha Dora of Winchendon; seventeen grandchildren, Meredith and Rebecca Aalto, Nicholas, Katrina and Kirsti Bogaard, Sarah, Corey, Hannah and Chelsea Drouin, Matthew and Stacie Lesneski, Luke, Sam, Benjamin and Kelly Sisco, Alise and Jill Aalto; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by an infant daughter, Penny Aalto who died in 1955; two brothers, Joseph and Robert Dora; one sister, Hope Nichols; and a grandson, Eric Aalto.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 10th at 11:00 a.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner. Dr. Rev. Gary Heikkila will officiate. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, Hubbardston.

Calling hours in the funeral home will be Friday, January 9th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
