James R. Yellen, 69, of 94 Old Stage Road, Orwell, VT, and formerly of Westminster, MA until moving to Vermont 26 years ago, died peacefully, Monday, September 17, 2012 in his residence following a long illness.
Born in Gardner on October 27, 1942, he was the son of the late Stephen and Helen (Jeleniewski) Yellen.
James was a United States Vietnam War Navy Veteran and received the Good Conduct Medal.
He was the owner of Northeast Army Navy Surplus Store in Rutland, Vermont for 26 years, retiring several years ago. He was previously a truck driver for many years.
James was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Gardner and St. Paul's Church in Vermont. He was also a member of the American Legion, Post 0053 in Brandon, VT.
His hobbies included farming, hunting and fishing. He enjoyed watching reality shows on television and spending time with his family.
James leaves his wife of 28 years, Nancy M. (Uppgard) Yellen of Orwell, Vermont; three daughters, Kimberley Collins and her husband Ronald of CA; Melissa Troxel of CA, and Tamara Kelly and her husband Richard of McDonough, GA; three stepsons, Gary Nelson and his wife Joyce of Athol, Kurt Nelson and his wife Lurane of Winchendon and Kim Nelson and his wife Lisa of Winchendon; twelve grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; two aunts, Carol Jeleniewski and Wanda Deveau; one uncle, Edward Jeleniewski; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, September 22nd at 11:00 a.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Gardner.
A calling hour in the funeral home will be Saturday, September 22nd from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
