James M Lupien

James Michael Lupien, 81, of Gardner, MA passed away after a prolonged illness on July 12, 2015. A longtime resident of Gardner, he was born on January 7th, 1934 in Worcester, MA. He was the eldest son of James Quail and Mary Agnes (Reilly) Lupien.
He was a graduate of Gardner High School where he played Varsity football. Upon graduation he entered the United States Navy and served in the Korean War. He married Shirley Fagan on July 25th, 1953 and together they raised seven children. He worked as a pipe fitter and was a member of the Fitchburg Pipefitters & Welders Union, Local #4. He worked all over the New England region. In the mid 1970's he became an independent truck driver and delivered manufactured goods and produce all over the United States.
Hunting and fishing were a lifelong passion. Most weekends he could be found fishing at the Quabbin Reservoir, Lake Winnipesaukee, or tromping through the woods of Massachusetts or New Hampshire after the ever elusive quarry. He was an avid sports fan, especially of the New England Patriots. He was a lifetime member of the Turnpike Rod and Gun Club of Ashburnham.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Shirley; two sons, Randy M. Lupien of Ashburnham, MA and James A. Lupien of Gardner, MA; five daughters, Kay F. (Gerald) Johnson of Billerica, MA, April M. (Steven) Palmer of Cottonwood, AZ, Patricia A. (John) Kelley of Antioch, CA, Heidi A. Happy of Uxbridge, MA and Colleen M. (Keith) Girouard of Waxhaw, NC; six grandchildren, Melissa Summers, Lindsy Lupien, Emily Lupien, John Michael Kelley, Ryan Johnson and Luke Happy; a great-grandson, Cody Legault; and a brother, John R. Lupien of Massachusetts.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Elizabeth Crory and Mary Ellen LaPierre; a brother, Francis Lupien.
In keeping with Mr. Lupien's wishes private funeral services will be held. He will be interred at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon.
