James Charles Joseph, 73, of 59 Eastwood Circle, Gardner, formerly of 172 Parker Street, died Sunday, September 17th in Heywood Hospital, Gardner, following a long illness.
Born in Gardner on November 4, 1932, he was the son of Charles and Marie (Korem) Joseph.
James was part owner with his brother Nabeeh, of Joseph's Variety
Store in Gardner for 20 years, retiring in 1998. He previously was employed by Florence Stove Co. of Gardner, Eastern Auto and the U.S. Postal Service.
James was a 1951 graduate of Gardner High School, and attended
Worcester Junior College, Worcester.
He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, V.F.W. Post 905 Ovila Case, Gardner, and American Legion Post 129 Gardner.
James enjoyed sports, especially baseball and football. He was a member of the Gardner Class B Champion Football Team in 1950.
He was a Korean War, U.S. Air Force Veteran and received the National Service Defense Medal, the United States Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
James leaves his brother Nabeeh A. Joseph of Gardner; 2 sisters, Elaine J. Noone and husband Arthur of The Villages, Florida and Judy C. Joseph of Phillipston, 2 nephews, 3 great-nephews and several cousins. He was predeceased by a brother Edward C. Joseph who died in 1971.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 20th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 166 Cross Street, Gardner. Burial will be in St. Johns Cemetery, Gardner.
A calling hour at the funeral home will be Wednesday, September 20th, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
