J. Norman "Norm" Collette, 73, of 121 Stephanie Drive, Gardner, died Tuesday, February 15th in the E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital, Bedford, following a long illness.
Born in Gardner on May 16, 1931, he was the son of Ernest and Eva (Goguen) Collette.
He was a sander then a foreman employed by Conant Ball Co., Gardner for 37 years until retiring in 1991. He also worked at Temple-Stuart Co. of Templeton.
Mr. Collette was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church. He was a member of V.F.W. Ovila Case Post 905 of Gardner, Salmon Club, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 30, and Paralyzed Veterans of America. He enjoyed playing golf, poker, cribbage and traveling. He also enjoyed going to Foxwoods.
He was a Korean War U.S. Army veteran and received the Occupation Medal (Japan), Combat Infantry Badge, Presidential Unit Citation, ROK PRES Unit Citation, Korean Service Medal with 5 Bronze Stars.
He leaves his wife of 37 years, Lois D. (Erickson) (Barus) Collette of Gardner; 1 stepson, Jeffrey Barus and wife Wendy of Gardner; 1 sister, Stella Brand of Ayer; 2 stepgranddaughters, Erin and Sara Barus of Gardner; 3 step-greatgrandchildren; 1 aunt; 2 uncles; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Roger Collette and a stepson Michael Barus, both of Gardner.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 19th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St., Gardner with a Mass at 1:30 p.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols St., Gardner. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours at the funeral home are Friday, February 18th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
