Irene C. (Harrington) Fredette, 79, of 58 Baldwinville Rd., Templeton, died peacefully Saturday, May 31st in Quabbin Valley Health Care, Athol, from complications of Alzeheimer's disease.
Born in Princeton on October 4, 1928, she was the daughter of the late William L. and Mary H. (Lombard) Harrington.
Irene was a schoolteacher in the Athol-Royalston Regional School District from 1950 until retiring in 1995.
She was a 1946 graduate of Fitchburg High School. She received a Bachelor of Education degree in 1950 and a Master of Education degree in 1956, both at Fitchburg State College. She also had credits towards her Doctorate degree.
Irene was a member of Our Lady Immaculate Church, Athol, and Holy Cross Church, Templeton. She was a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association, Massachusetts Retired Teachers Association and Athol Teachers Association.
She was a master knitter who designed her own patterns. She was a seamstress and loved to travel especially to Russia, India, Egypt, China and the Philippines.
She leaves her husband of 51 years, Paul L. Fredette of Templeton; 1 sister, Doris Harrington of Fitchburg; 2 brothers-in-law, Douglas D. Fredette and his wife Barbara of Albany, OR, James E. Fredette of Corvallis, OR; and several cousins.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 6th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St., Gardner with a Mass at 11:30 a.m. in Holy Cross Church, 25 Lake Ave., E. Templeton. Burial will be in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon. Immediately following the burial, a reception will be held at the Carriage House Restaurant, 600 Spring St.,Winchendon.
Calling hours in the funeral home are Thursday, June 5th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
