Irene M. (Gauvin) Brassard, 79, of 136 West St., Gardner died Tuesday in Heywood Hospital, Gardner, following an illness.
Born in Gardner on March 21, 1924, she was the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Roy) Gauvin.
She was a 1942 graduate of Gardner High School. She was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church. Mrs. Brassard was a member and past president of V.F.W. Women's Auxillary Ovila Post 905 of Gardner and a member of V.F.W. Women's Auxillary Post 2158 of Winchendon. She was a matron for the Royal Cadets of Gardner. She enjoyed playing bingo, knitting and was an enthusiastic sports fan. Her greatest love was taking care of her children and grandchildren.
Her husband of 36 years, Herve J. Brassard, died in 1986.
She leaves 2 sons, Louis Paul Brassard and Roger A. Brassard, both of Gardner; 3 daughters, Christine M. LeBlanc of Templeton, Louise A. Caissie of Gardner, Elaine I. Giampa of Phillipston; 2 brothers, Joseph Aime Gauvin of Wakefield and Joseph Phillip Gauvin of Orange; 1 sister, Violette Roberts of Shrewsbury; 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother Joseph Dolor Gauvin of Leominster.
Funeral services will be held Friday from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St., Gardner with a Mass at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols St., Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours at the funeral home are Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
