Irene M Bevis

Irene M. (Lajoie) (Diemdowicz) Bevis, 90, of 235 Queen Lake Road, Phillipston, died peacefully Saturday, February 21st in St. Vincents Hospital, Worcester, surrounded by her family.

Born in Gardner on January 9, 1919, she was the daughter of the late William and Alice (Patnode) Lajoie.

Prior to retiring in 1979, Irene was a finisher employed by Mead Container, Gardner for 8 years. She was previously a housekeeper for many years.

Irene was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, Gardner, and its church choir. She was a member of the Gardner chapter of A.A.R.P.

Irene loved to clean, cook, and watch television. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Disneyworld. Irene most enjoyed time spent with her family.

She was predeceased by her first husband of 37 years, Joseph S. Diemdowicz, who died in 1984, and by her second husband of 18 years, Dana L. Bevis, who died in 1995.

She leaves, three sons, Donald Diemdowicz and his wife Nancy of Holden, Joseph Diemdowicz of Athol, and Dean Diemdowicz and his fiance Shelly Mustakangas of Phillipston; two daughters, Beverly Bowler of Leominster and Carol Hughes and her dear friend William McGrath of Fitchburg; one stepson , James Bevis of Jaffrey, NH; one stepdaughter, Maureen Donegad of Jaffrey, NH; one brother, Roland LaJoie of Gardner; nine grandchildren, Michael Bowler, Christine Birt, Kim LeBlanc, Suzanne Conley, Debra Shortsleeves, Brian Diemdowicz, Holly MacCauley, Ashley Charron and Tracey Diemdowicz; fourteen great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by one daughter, Mary Bowler who died in 2002, and by two sisters, Rachel Hawryla and Eleanor Reynolds.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 26th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Gardner at a later date.

A calling hour in the funeral home will be Thursday, February 26th from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
