Herve J. "Chips" Bourque, 87, of 29 Oak Street, Gardner died peacefully Thursday, February 14, 2013 in his residence surrounded by family, following a long illness.
Born in Gardner on December 20, 1925, he was the son of the late Philippe and Anna (Gagnon) Bourque.
Herve was employed by S. Bent Brothers of Gardner as a sander for 37 years, retiring in 1990. He was previously employed by Heywood Wakefield Company of Gardner.
Herve was a United States WWII Navy Veteran and received the WWII Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theatrer Medal with 2 stars, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Medal with 2 stars and the Philippine Liberation Theatre Medal.
He attended Gardner High School, Gardner. Herve was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church in Gardner. He was also a member of the Salmon Club and the VFW Ovila Case Post 905 of Gardner.
Herves hobbies included hunting, fishing, golfing, bowling, playing cards and cribbage. He was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed watching all sports on television. He also enjoyed going to the casino; he liked to gamble, but never bet the farm.
Herve was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Mary I (Fluet) Bourque, who died May 30, 1999.
He leaves two sons, Paul P. Bourque and his wife Penny of S. Windsor, CT and Michael S. Bourque of Gardner; one daughter, Michelle T. Kelley and her husband David of Gardner; one sister, Rita Ouellette of Leominster; seven grandchildren, Kristen, Jonathan, Jason, Colin, Ryan, Harmony and Christopher; six great-grandchildren, Steven, Jason, Charles, Saana, Sadeed and Zoe; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, Lionel Bourque.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, February 22nd from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery Gardner.
A calling hour in the funeral home will be Friday, February 22nd from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
