Helmi M Lepkowski

March 30, 1918 — May 28, 2010

Helmi M. (Wauhkonen) Lepkowski, 92, a long time resident of Gardner, died peacefully Friday, May 28th in the Baldwinville Nursing Home, Baldwinville, following a long illness.

Born in Norwood on March 30, 1918, she was the daughter of the late William and Hilda (Karjalainen) Wauhkonen.

Helmi attended Gardner High School, Gardner. She was employed by Colonial Craft Furniture of East Templeton for several years. She also worked as an assembler for 5 years at Simplex Time Recorder Co. and was a home health aide for Montachusett Home Care of Leominster.

She and her late husband, Henry, raised three sons in East Templeton, MA and later moved to Gardner where they were actively involved in the lives of their children and grandchildren. They enjoyed vacationing with their family, locally and around the world. Many weekends were spent with some combination of grandchildren playing at their home and having sleepovers.

Helmi's hobbies included spending time with her many friends, talking on the phone, gardening, cooking, reading and traveling. Helmi will always be remembered for her sense of humor, her blunt and funny comments, her welcoming home, her enjoyment for attending parties, and for making eveything she did so much fun.

Helmi was predeceased by her husband of 41 years, Henry W. Lepkowski, who died April 8, 1981, and by one son, James W. Lepkowski, who died in 2006.

She leaves two sons, David H. Lepkowski and his wife Pauline of Gardner and Richard B. Lepkowski and his wife Ann of Gardner; one daughter-in-law, Jean Lepkowski of Torrox, Spain. She will be dearly missed by her six grandchildren, Dean, Michael, Pamela and Craig Lepkowski, Kathryn (Lepkowski) Salz and Karen (Lepkowski) Crum; eight great-grandchildren, Erika, Matthew, Brielle, Jackson, and Bryce Lepkowski and Kyla, Camden and Colby Crum; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by two brothers, Olavi Wauhkonen and Reino Wauhkonen.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 3rd at 11:00 a.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner. Dr. Reverend Gary Heikkila will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Gardner.
