Helen Richard, 98, of Gardner, died peacefully Monday, June 21, 2022 in her home.
Born in St Anne de Kent, New Brunswick, Canada on February 6, 1924, she was the
daughter of Sylvain and Osithe (Maillet) Allain. She worked for Simplex Time Recorder
Co. in the Gardner stockroom and previously at Ray Plastics in Winchendon, MA. Helen
was a parishioner of Annunciation Parish in Gardner, as well as the secretary and
member of the Ladies of St Anne Sodality. She was also a member of the Holy Family
League and the Canadian Legion Auxiliary. Helen also volunteered at the Annunciation
Parish bingo for 50 years and at its annual bazaar.
Helen loved her New England sports teams, especially the Boston Bruins, staying up
late to catch the games. She enjoyed traveling especially to Vermont and Canada. Her
hobbies were baking, knitting and crocheting. She was also an avid speed walker and
won the annual Gardner to Baldwinville Turkey Trot in 1991 at 67 years old. However,
her greatest pleasure was spending time with her family.
Helen was pre-deceased by her husband Emilien Richard whom she was happily
married to for 61 years and by her brothers Auguste, and Michel and her 10 sisters
Emilienne, Pauline, Octavie, Emerise, Genevieve, Sophie, Anna, Marie, Therese and
Noella.
Helen is survived by her children, Omer C. Richard (Phyllis) of Gardner, MA, Dianne A.
Hunt of Gardner, MA, and Lucy M. Morrill (Derrel Woodward) of Williston, VT. She
leaves her 10 grandchildren, Lisa Rhodes (Danny), Heather Ferrari, Buddy Hunt, Colby
Morrill (Amy), Devin Morrill (Liron), Keith Morrill (Devon), Kristin Richard, Justin Richard,
Danielle Mulloy (Alex), and Amanda Richard, and 14 great grandchildren, as well as
many nieces and nephews. She also leaves her sister in laws, Florence Girouard and
her spouse Paul of Cocagne NB, Alice Nowland of Shediac NB, Nola Richard of
Richibucto NB and Diana Richard of Bouctouche NB.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the dedicated staff of Care Central VNA
& Hospice for their loving care.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday June 28, 2022, from the Boucher Funeral Home,
Inc.,110 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA, with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Annunciation Parish
at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA. Burial at
Notre Dame Cemetery, West Street, Gardner, MA will follow.
Calling Hours will be held Tuesday June 28, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in the
funeral home.
