Helen C. (Gay) Powers, 94, of Gardner, died peacefully Friday, April 15, 2016 in the Baldwinville Nursing Home of Baldwinville, following a brief illness.
She was born in Gardner on December 12, 1921, the daughter of the late Adelard and Marie (Roy) Gay.
Helen graduated from Gardner High School with the Class of 1940.
She was employed by Goodnow Pearson's for 15 years as a window treatment designer, retiring in 1969.
She was a member of Annunciation Parish/Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church of Gardner.
Helen was an accomplished artist, she loved playing Bingo and she enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a member of the Gardner Golden Agers and the Gardner Chapter of AARP.
Helen was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, William T. Powers, Jr. who died November 8, 2007.
She leaves one daughter, Lynn L. Powers and her husband Arthur Trainque of Hubbardston; one sister, Doris G. Gearan of Gardner; one granddaughter, Cheryl Degrace; four great-grandchildren, Amanda, Teresa, Lillian and Melissa; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her son, Thomas A. Powers who died in 1968; and by her sister, Beulah L. Laliberte.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, April 21st from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Annunciation Parish/Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner at a later date.
A calling hour will be held Thursday, April 21st from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
