Hector J. "Joe" Letendre, Jr., 79, of 59 Eastwood Circle, Gardner, died Saturday, January 28th in the Leo P. LaChance Center for Rehabilitation & Nursing, Gardner.
Born in Rutland on June 5, 1926, he was the son of Hector J. and Rachel (Willard) Letendre, Sr.
He was a Licensed Practical Nurse employed by MA General Hospital, Boston for 25 years until retiring in 1991. He previously worked at Worcester State Hospital.
He was a 1944 graduate of Rutland High School and graduated from the Waltham School of Nursing in 1948.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church and the American Legion Post 129 of Gardner.
He enjoyed country western music and played steel, acoustic and rhythm guitars.
Mr. Letendre was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and received the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
He leaves 1 brother, Charles W. Latowne of Hubbardston and several cousins.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 31st from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St., Gardner with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols St., Gardner.
Burial will be in the MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon.
A calling hour at the funeral home will be Tuesday, January 31st from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
