Hector J. "Sling" Landry, Jr. 78, of 116 Church St., Gardner, formerly of 34 Euclid St., Gardner, died Friday, June 20th in the Blaire House, Worcester, following a long illness.
Born in Gardner on July 2, 1929, he was the son of Hector J. Landry Sr. and Donilda (Dube) Landry.
He was a sample maker employed by the former George Bent Co. of Gardner for several years until retiring in 1980. He was previously employed by Heywood-Wakefield Co. of Gardner.
Hector was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church. He was a member of the V.F.W. Ovila Case Post 905 of Gardner and the Gardner Trout Club. He was an outdoorsman who especially enjoyed hunting.
Mr. Landry was a Korean War U.S. Army Veteran and received the Korean Service Medal and the UN Service Medal. He served from 1951 to 1953.
He leaves his wife of 51 years, Therese Eva (LeBlanc) Landry; a brother, Alfred R. Landry and his wife Georgette, a sister, Diana Olivari and her husband Sid all of Gardner; a brother-in-law, Donald J. LeBlanc of Athol; five godchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by 2 sisters, Lorraine Goguen and Priscilla Monette.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 24th at 1:30 p.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St., Gardner. Rev. Andre Dargis, pastor of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, will officiate. Burial in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner, will be at a later date.
A calling hour at the funeral home will be Tuesday, June 24th from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
