Hazel L Bastarache

October 27, 1925 — August 12, 2019

Hazel L. (Nutting) Bastarache, 93, of Gardner, died peacefully Monday, August 12, 2019 in Wachusett Manor Nursing Home, surrounded by her family following a period of declining health.

                Born in Gardner on October 27, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Florence (Gray) Nutting. She graduated from Gardner High School with the Class of 1944, was employed by Simplex Time Recorder of Gardner as an assembler for 28 years, retiring in 1980. Hazel was a member of Annunciation Parish, and former member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. She was also a member of the Gardner Chapter of AARP and the Gardner Golden Agers.

                Hazel enjoyed playing Bingo, knitting, crocheting, doing crafts and jigsaw puzzles. She was an avid bowler who played on two teams for fifteen years, and she loved watching soap operas on television, and listening to country music.

                Hazel was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Joseph Neri Bastarache who died in 1992.

                She leaves her son, Roger W. Bastarache; daughters, Nancy L. McKean and her husband Robert, and Janet M. Bois and her husband Bruce; grandchildren, Laurie Sullivan and her husband Sean, Bruce Ruuska and Michael Russka; several great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Bertha Nutting and Gena Nutting; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Hazel also leaves her caregivers, Karen Johnson, Cecilia Bastarache and Jeff Nutting. She was predeceased by her brothers, Gilbert, Donald, Everett, Howard and Clarence Nutting; and sisters, Shirley Danils, Evelyn Caswell and Mildred MacAloney; and great-grandson, Michael Patrick Sullivan.

                Funeral Services will be held Thursday, August 15th at 11:00 a.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Gardner.

                A calling hour will be held Thursday, August 15th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home.
