Harry Billington, 89, of 86 Chapman Park, Gardner died peacefully Friday, January 8th in Wachusett Manor Nursing Home, Gardner.
Born in Blackburn, Lancashire, England on April 27, 1920, he was the son of John and May (Walmsley) Billington.
He was an automobile mechanic at Gaston Andre of Brookline for 10 years, retiring in 1978. He was previously employed by Import Motors of Lunenburg and Crandall Hicks of Leominster.
Harry was a member of American Legion Post #119 of Florida and the Gardner Lodge of Elks #1426. He was a racecar builder and racer beginning at 15 years of age and was an open wheel racecar driver. Carl worked as a bouncer at various nightclubs in Florida. He loved arm wrestling and enjoyed watching his favorite television program, Law and Order.
Mr. Billington was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran and received the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Campaign Ribbon and the Victory Medal.
He leaves a son, Carl Billington and his wife Celeste of Gardner; 3 nieces and several cousins. He was predeceased by 2 sisters, Edna Hanley and Marjorie Poladian.
All funeral services are private and will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
There are no calling hours.
