Gregory L. "Greg" Shanholtz, 57, of 39 Melrose St., Fitchburg, died Friday, October 8th in The Highlands, Fitchburg, following a short illness.
Born in Fitchburg on March 21, 1947, he was the son of Charles and Helen (Foss) Shanholtz.
At the time of his death he was a water meter reader employed by the City of Leominster Water Department for the last 17 years.
He was a 1965 graduate of Fitchburg High School.
He was a life member of DAV, Chapter 30 of Fitchburg. He enjoyed fishing, beano, Foxwoods and the Red Sox.
Mr. Shanholtz was a Vietnam War Veteran and served in the US Navy from 1965 to 1971where he received the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal. He served in the US Coast Guard from 1971 to 1979 and received the CG Unit Commendation Award.
He leaves his wife of 32 years, Monica R. (Pilesky) Shanholtz of Fitchburg; 2 daughters, Kristine M. Frechette and husband Derek of Gardner, Lisa A. Philbrick and husband Joseph of Fitchburg; 1 brother, Ronald Shanholtz of Virginia; 4 grandchildren, Rachael and Rebekka Frechette, Stephanie and Aimee Philbrick; 1 aunt, Mae Serafin of Fitchburg; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Richard Shanholtz of Hudson, NH.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 12th @ 2:00 p.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St., Gardner. Burial at a later date will be in the MA Memorial Veterans' Cemetery, Winchendon.
Calling hours at the funeral home are Monday, October 11th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
