Gordon John Dickie, 82, of Gardner, died peacefully Monday, October 28, 2024, in Heywood Hospital, Gardner, after a period of declining health with his family by his side.
Born in Gardner on January 9, 1942, he was the son of the late Gordon R. and Aurela (Korbuszewski) Dickie. He graduated from Gardner High School with the Class of 1960 and attended night classes at the Worcester Boy’s Trade School, receiving his electrician license in 1969. Gordon was a United States Navy Vietnam Era Veteran proudly serving in the submarine service from 1961 to 1965. He was a master electrician working as a wire inspector for the towns of Athol, Wendell, and Hubbardston for many years before his retirement in 2005.
John was a parishioner of Annunciation Parish of Gardner, practicing at its Holy Spirit Chapel, and a parishioner of the former Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. He was a member of the Polish American Citizens Club, the Lodge of Elks, and VFW Post 905, all of Gardner, and was a member of the Massachusetts Electrical Contractor Association. He loved to travel, play on the computer, watch college football, especially the Alabama Crimson Tide, and was a fan of his Miami Dolphins and Atlanta Braves. John’s greatest joy was his family, treasuring all the time spent together.
John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jane A. (Reese) Dickie, of Gardner; a son, David T. Dickie and his partner Rebecca Hicks of Templeton; three grandchildren, Kristen Rader and her partner Jeff Sears, Tylene Dickie and Jeremey Dickie and his spouse Faith; two great-grandchildren, Brennen Leslie, Abel Sears; two brothers, Dennis Dickie and his spouse Gloria of Florida, and Michael Dickie and his spouse Deanna of Texas; a sister, Jodi Dickie of Florida; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a son, Stephen Michael Dickie; his infant daughter, Edith Rebecca Dickie; a great grandson Jenson Ray Sears; four brothers, Thomas, Joseph, William, and Lee F. Dickie; and two sisters, Cynthia Shyrock and Lee Mary Dickie.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, November 5, 2024, with a Mass at 11:30 a.m. in Annunciation Parish at Holy Spirit Chapel, 50 Lovewell Street. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon, MA.
