Gilbert T. "Herb" Herbert, Jr,71, who resided at 68 South Main Street, Gardner since 1985, died peacefully Thursday, April 16, 2015 in UMASS Memorial Medical Center, 55 Lake Ave, Worcester, following a long illness.
Born in Neptune Township, NJ on September 22, 1943, he was the son of the late Gilbert T. and Kathryn E. (Himes)Herbert, Sr.
Gilbert graduated from Fort Myers High School of Florida with the Class of 1961. He received his Associates Degree in Business Administration from Mount Wachusett Community College of Gardner in 1983.
Gilbert was a United States Vietnam War Navy Veteran and received the National Defense Service Medal.
He was employed by Carquest Auto Parts as a parts delivery driver for four years, retiring in 2004. He previously owned and operated his own painting company, M R & H Refurbishing of Gardner for five years.
Gilbert was a member and Past Commander of the V.F.W. Post 2158 of Winchendon.
He enjoyed fishing, camping, reading suspense novels, playing cribbage and was an avid fan of all sports. Gilbert also enjoyed trying his luck with lottery scratch tickets. He treasured spending time with his family.
Gilbert leaves his wife of 47 years, Mary R. (Nalette) Herbert of Gardner; one son, Jerrett M. Herbert and his wife Erica of Stow; one daughter, Michele R. Cormier and her husband Rheal of Gardner; one sister, Sandra Leal of Bromfield, CO; cousin to his wife and good friend, Morris Fournier and his wife Carol of E. Bridgewater; two step-grandchildren, Jackie Cormier and her fiancé Jon Walsh of West Boylston and Janelle Cormier of Gardner; several nieces, nephews and in-laws.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, April 28th at 10:00 a.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichol Street, Gardner. Pastor Jay Lillie of Cornerstone Church of Winchendon will officiate. Burial will be in the MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon.
Calling hours will be held Monday, April 27th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
