Gerard F. "Gerry" Vautour, 84, of 194 Central Street, Gardner, died peacefully Wednesday, June 4th in his residence.
Born in Rumford, Maine on October 25, 1923, he was the son of the late Albert and Eleanore (Gallant) Vautour.
Prior to his retirement in 1989, Gerard was Chief of Campus Police at the Templeton Developmental Center in Templeton for 26 years. He was previously employed by Collier-Keyworth as a machine operator.
Gerard was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, Gardner and it's League of Sacred Heart and past member St. Vincent de Paul Society. He was an active participant of the church as a Lector, Collector and involved with the music programs. Gerard was the first chairperson of the annual Holy Rosary Church Bazaar. He attended marriage encounter weekends in 1960, and also was involved in the Cursillo movement.
Mr. Vautour was a member of A.A.R.P. He was Director of the Franco-American Credit Union, Gardner, and a member of the Acadien Social Club, Gardner.
Gerard was a Veteran of the Canadian Army. He assisted many French people become established in the City of Gardner.
Gerard was very involved in the City of Gardner civic affairs, and was also formerly on the Planning Board. He was active in Democratic affairs throughout the State.
Mr. Vautour enjoyed reading the Bible and reciting the rosary. He loved to travel, go out to eat, play cards, and dance - particularly square dancing. He was an avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriot fan. He enjoyed socializing and laughing, he truly loved life. He treasured time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Rose (Aucoin) Vautour who died August 9, 1978.
He leaves his wife, Jeannine Y. (Bernard) (Forman) Vautour of Gardner whom he married May 30, 1985; two sons, Albert A. Vautour and his wife Mary of Hopedale, and Maurice W. Vautour and his fiancée Anne Prudencio of Gardner; six daughters, Francine H. Pera and her husband Eric of Gardner, Marie R. Vautour of Falmouth, Helene E. Vautour of Gardner, Therese R. Vautour of Exeter, Geraldine A. Vautour of Minneapolis, MN, and Christine M. Vautour-Burke and her husband Michael of Worcester; two stepsons, Michael Forman and his fiancée Pauline Masterson of Athol and Stephen Forman and his wife Judy of Warrior, AL; two step-daughters, Lisa Hall and her husband Keith of Winchendon, Laurie Anne Martin and her husband Robert of Winchendon; five sisters, Ernestine Johnson of N.B. Canada, Delia Daigle of Gardner, Germaine Comeau and her husband Fernand of Gardner and Rosella Ouellette and her husband Francis of Hubbardston, and Roseanna Thomas and her husband Richard of St. John Canada; one sister-in-law, Bernadette Vautour of Gardner; nineteen grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one brother, Dolore Vautour of Gardner who died in 2008.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 9th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours in the funeral home are Sunday, June 8th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
