Gerard J"Choker" Maillet

Gerard J. "Choker" "Jerry" Maillet, 93, of 125 Connors Street, and formerly of Baldwinivllle, died peacefully Wednesday June 18th in Legend Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, surrounded by his family.

Born in Bouctouche, NB, Canada, on June 29, 1920, he was the son of the late Joseph and Lydie (Bernard) Maillet.

Jerry received his GED in 1949. He attended Stevens Business College, was licensed as a real estate broker, was a licensed private pilot and a licensed 2nd class fireman dealing with high pressure boilers. He was a licensed construction supervisor and self-employed contractor of Maillet Roofing & Siding until retiring in 2007. He was previously employed at S. Bent Co. of Gardner from 1982 to 1997 as a 2nd class Fireman. Jerry was sole founder and owner of Chair City Oil Company from 1947 to 1953. He also an insurance agent for Prudential Insurance Co.

He was a member of the Athol-Orange Aero Club, Roger P. Warfield Post of American Legion of Baldwinville, Ovila Case Post 905 V.F.W. of Gardner, and was a close friend of "Bill". Jerry was an avid golfer, cribbage player and was a registered bee keeper for 20 years who enjoyed fishing and traveling. He was also a loyal fan of the Boston Red Sox.

He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and received the Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, and Philippine Liberation Ribbon with Bronze Service Star.

Mr. Maillet leaves 2 sons, Kevin Maillet of Massachusetts, Rene Maillet of Athol; a daughter, Cheryl Moriarty and her husband Edward of Vacaville, CA; 3 sisters, Odette "Dixie" Niemela, of Gardner, Berta Martin of Manchester, NH, and Evangeline Sayers of Hartford, CT; a son-in-law, Ronald Dupuis of Athol; 3 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 1 step-granddaughter and 2 step-grandsons. He also leaves a close friend, Helen Dockum of Baldwiniville. He was predeceased by his first wife, Theresa (Dugan) Maillet, his second wife Yvette M. (Paulin) Maillet, his third wife Anne (Donovan) Maillet; a daughter, Lisa M. Dupuis of Athol who died June 16th, 2014; a son, Carlton Maillet who died in 2001; a brother, and several sisters.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 23rd from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St. Gardner, with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols St., Gardner. Burial at Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner, will be at a later date.

A calling hour at the funeral home will be Monday, June 23rd from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
