Gerald J. Cormier

Gerald J. "Gerry" Cormier, 77, of 125 Connors St. Gardner and formerly of 288 Parker St., Gardner, died Saturday, July 30th in the Wachusett Manor Nursing Home, Gardner, following a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Born in Notre Dame, NB, Canada on March 4, 1928, he was the son of Hector and Ida (Goguen) Cormier.

He was a linen distributor employed by Heywood Hospital of Gardner for 5 years, retiring in 2001. He was a polisher formerly employed by Collier-Keyworth Co. of Gardner for 20 years until retiring from there in 1990.

He was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church. He was a member of the Acadien Social Club and A.A.R.P. Mr. Cormier enjoyed woodworking.

He leaves his wife of 53 years, Rita M. (Babineau) Cormier of Gardner; 5 sons, Rene J. Cormier and wife Jill, Louis J. Cormier and wife Lisa, Hector Cormier and wife Kathleen, all of Gardner, Paul J. Cormier and wife Judy of New Haven, CT, Eddie Cormier and significant other Teri Doucette of Baldwinville; 3 daughters, Diana L. Andrews and husband Joseph, Gloria Gaboury and husband Kevin all of Gardner, Geraldine M. Sampson and husband Charles of Lunenburg; 3 brothers, Clarence Cormier of Gardner, Ernest Cormier of St. Antoine, Raymond Cormier of Notre Dame, NB, Canada; 2 sisters, Georgina Leger and Beatrice LeBlanc both of Notre Dame, NB, Canada; 18 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by 5 brothers, Donald, Alphee, Aldege, Leo Cormier and Nyl (also known as Eddie) Cormier, who died in battle during World War II, and 1 sister, Cecile Cormier.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 3rd from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St., Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols St., Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner, at a later date.

Calling hours at the funeral home are Tuesday, August 2nd from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Due to health reasons, the family requests that flowers be omitted and memorial contributions be made to Wachusett Manor Nursing Home, Homestead Unit Activity Fund, 32 Hospital Hill Rd., Gardner, MA 01440 or St. Vincent de Paul Society, Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols St., Gardner, MA 01440.
