George J. Goguen, 84, of 125 Connors Street, Gardner, and formerly of 5 Jean Street, died peacefully Sunday, July 16th in the Wachusett Manor Nursing Home, Gardner, following an illness.
Born in Gardner on March 11, 1922, he was the son of Nazaire and Euphemie (Richard) Goguen.
George was the Purchasing Agent for the City of Gardner for three years, retiring in 1985. He was a Traffic Manager at the former Heywood- Wakefield Co., Gardner from 1974 until 1982, and was a Clerk Agent for the Boston and Maine Railroad Co. from 1941 through 1972. He also prepared income tax returns.
He graduated from Gardner High School in 1939, and The New England School of Accounting in 1941.
George was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, its League of Sacred Heart and the Saint Vincent De Paul Society. He was a member of the Gardner Golden Agers, AARP, V.F.W. Post 905 Ovila Case, Gardner. George was a member of the Gardner Housing Authority and served on the board of directors from 1974 to present.
He was a WWII Navy Veteran, serving from 1943 until 1945.
George leaves one son, George J. Goguen of Warren, Vermont. He also leaves several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Lorraine D. (Landry) Goguen, and two brothers; Raymond and Henry Goguen , two sisters; Alice Ballam, and Eva Collette.
A memorial service will be held Monday, July 24th at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.
