George F. Belliveau, 87, of 24 Clark Street, Gardner died peacefully, Sunday, January 18, 2015 in the Gardner Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, following a brief illness.
George was born in Gardner on June 18, 1927, the son of the late Albert and Emelie (Bastarache) Belliveau.
He graduated from St. Joseph's High School of Moncton, N.B. Canada.
George was a United States Navy Veteran who served his Country for over 22 years. He served during WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He received many medals, badges and ribbons during his years of service, including the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, two National Defense Service Medals and five Good Conduct Medals.
Following his retirement from the Military, George was employed by Simplex Time Recorder Company of Gardner as a Machinist for 14 years. He retired from Simplex in 1988. George also owned and operated a lawn furniture business, "George's Lawn Furniture", for a span of over 36 years.
George was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church of Gardner. He was also a member of the VFW Ovila Case, Post 905 of Gardner.
He enjoyed woodworking, traveling, camping, snowmobiling and playing the fiddle. He treasured spending time with his family.
George leaves his wife of 59 years, Evelyn (LeBlanc) Belliveau of Gardner; one son, Dennis A. Belliveau of Gardner; three daughters, Christina Barnes of Bedford, NH, Judy Potter of Sterling, and Brenda Cashman and her husband Shawn of Templeton; one son-in-law, Michael Smith; seven grandchildren, Richard, Kelley, Timothy, Justin, Benjamin, Bridget and Brooke; three great-grandchildren, Michael, Brionna and Zain; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his daughter, Maryann Smith; and by his sister, Bertha Budd.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, January 23rd from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:30 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Road, Winchendon.
Calling hours will be Thursday, January 22nd from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
