George A. Babineau

George A. Babineau, 92, of Leominster, formerly of Gardner, died peacefully Tuesday, October 19, 2021, in UMass Memorial Medical Center—University Campus, Worcester, after an illness.

Born in Gardner on January 24, 1929, he was the son of the late Adelard and Laura (Careau) Babineau. He graduated from Eymard Seminary in Suffern, NY with the Class of 1946 and later received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Boston University with the Class of 1962. George was a United States Army Korean War Veteran serving from 1952 to 1954, where he received the National Defense Service Medal. George was an Engineer employed by General Electric of Fitchburg for 35-years until his retirement in 1986.

George was a parishioner of Annunciation Parish/ Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church of Gardner, where he was formerly active in the Spiritual Life Committee, a Lector, and a Eucharistic Minister. He was also an active volunteer for Habitat for Humanity.

George is survived by his wife of 23-years, Eleanor Hebert Ingves Babineau of Leominster; a son, David G. Babineau and his wife Sylvia of Gardner; two daughters, Louise Tata and her husband John of Lunenburg, and Diane Boucher and her husband Denis of Sandwich; one stepdaughter, Susan I. Meyer and two stepsons, Robert W. and Richard R. Ingves and their families; five grandchildren, Jacob and Michael Babineau, Lauren and Ross Boucher, and Melanie Tata; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his first wife of 43-years, Lorraine (Couture) Babineau, who died in 1992; a brother, Guy Careau; and two sisters, Alice Murray, and Muriel Spenard.

Calling Hours will be held Sunday, October 24, 2021, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, October 25, 2021, from the funeral home with a with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Annunciation Parish at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery, West Street, Gardner, MA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary, 209 Lawrence Street, Methuen, MA 01844 or to Annunciation Parish, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA 01440. Please reference in memory of George A. Babineau.
