George J. "Babs" Babineau, 90, of 228 Gardner Road, Hubbardston died peacefully Friday, November 19, 2010 surrounded by his family in Wachusett Manor Nursing Home, Gardner.
George was born in Gardner on July 22, 1920, the son of the late Orel and Elise (Maillett) Babineau.
Prior to retiring in 1985, George was a lathe operator employed by S. Bent Brothers of Gardner for sixteen years. He was previously a shipper, receiver, pressman and foreman employed by Gardner Tool and Stamp Co. of Gardner for over 23 years.
George was a United States WWII Army Veteran and received the Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Ribbon.
He was a member of Holy Spirit Church in Gardner. George enjoyed gardening, repairing small engines, watching Western movies and "The Three Stooges" on television. He also spent a lot of time working on the interior of his home in Hubbardston.
George was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Bernice V. (Johnson) Babineau, who died June 17, 2010.
He leaves one son, George R. Babineau and his wife Brenda of Gardner; six daughters, Barbara A. Carpenter and her husband James of Hubbardston, June M. Girouard and her husband Charles of Hubbardston, Linda M. McDonald and her husband Philip of Haines City, FL, Betty J. Smith and her husband Marshall of Gardner, Carol E. Therrien and her husband Kenneth of Ellington, CT and Kathy L. Newton and her husband Robert of Hubbardston; one son-in-law, Glenn Marceau of Hubbardston; two brothers, Clarence A. Babineau of Gardner and Donald Babineau of Marlboro; nineteen grandchildren, twenty five great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one daughter, Judith M. Marceau who died in 2008; four brothers, Henry J., Herbert, Robert and Joseph Babineau; and five sisters, Laura Dickinson, Irene Bullock, Margaret Ikonen, Bertha Arsenault and Isabel Kaiser
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, November 24th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Spirit Church, 50 Lovewell Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, Hubbardston.
Calling hours in the funeral home will be Wednesday, November 24th from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
