George W. Adams, 87, of 2 Lake Ave., E. Templeton, died Tuesday, February 28, 2012 in Heywood Hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Malden on February 27, 1925, he was the son of Walter L. and Alma C. (Haguland) Adams. He attended the Malden School System.
George was a maintenance worker at The Worcester Center Galleria for many years until retiring in 1989. He was a highly skilled artisan painter of many prestigious homes in the Lexington area.
He was a member of the American Legion Roger P. Warfield, Post #373 of Baldwinville.
His earlier hobbies and expertise were training gaited horses at Suffolk Down Race Track in Revere and riding Buck "Bucky" Dividend in all of the Quarter Horse Pleasure Classes he attended in the North Shore area.
Shortly after residing in the town of Templeton, George was dubbed, "The Mayor of East Templeton".
In his retirement years, he enjoyed visiting with his comrades in the East Templeton area and supervising the business operations of Olsens' Killions' Cumbies, CO&S and Scratch & Dent.
He was a Korean War U.S. Army Veteran and received the Combat Infantry Badge and the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars.
His wife of 33 years, Adrienne (Boucher) Adams, died in 1983.
He leaves 3 sons, Barry J. Adams of East Templeton, Wayne J. Adams and his wife Terri of Ashburnham, Neil G. Adams and his wife Sheila of Otter River; a daughter, Valerie A. Lloyd of East Templeton; 2 brothers, Walter Adams Jr. of Lynn, Paul Adams of Bradenton, FL; 1 sister, Madilyn Kauffman of Tyngsboro; 7 grandchildren, John W. Lloyd and his wife Tammy, Autumn C. Adams, Sandra J. Adams, Joshua Adams, Chelsea R. Adams, Amanda Adams, Lindsey L. Adams; 3 great-grandchildren, Katerina L. Lloyd, Kristen A. Lloyd, Dakotah J. Strait-Adams,; several nieces and nephews including Dennis Cadger of Athol. He was predeceased by a daughter, Sandra Louise Adams who died in 1967, 2 brothers, Lawrence and William Adams, 2 sisters, Lillian Carroll and Jean C. Adams.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 2nd at 12:00 noon in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St., Gardner. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Templeton.
Calling hours at the funeral home are Friday, March 2nd from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
