Gary R. Nivala, 61, of Gardner died Sunday, September 23, 2018 in UMASS Memorial Medical Center of Worcester surrounded by his family, following a brief illness.
Born in Pittsfield, MA on December 18, 1956, he was the son of the late Robert W. and Jacqueline K. (Larson) Nivala.
Gary graduated from Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical School of Fitchburg in 1975 as an Electrician. He was employed by McKenna Electric of Leominster for 34 years, retiring in 2011. He was previously employed by Modern Dispersions, Inc. of Leominster.
Gary was a member of Holy Spirit Church of Gardner. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge 1426 of Gardner and the Napoleon Club of Gardner.
He enjoyed camping in Vermont, hunting, fishing and cooking; and he loved spending time with his family.
Gary leaves his wife of 41 years, Deborah Jean (McMilleon) Nivala of Gardner; two sons, Nicholas R. Nivala and Patrick S. Nivala of Gardner; brothers, Gregg Nivala and his wife Cynthia of Virginia, and Eric Nivala of Gardner; sister, Catherine Nivala and her significant other, Patrick Taylor of Gardner; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, October 4th at 12:00 p.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, West Street, Gardner.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, October 4th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
