Gary S. Nelson, 64, of 35 Fruit Street, Worcester, formerly of 142 Nichols Street, Gardner for the past 15 years, died peacefully Friday, November 21, 2014 in West Side House of Worcester, following a long illness.
Gary was born and raised in Fall River, MA on December 19, 1949, the son of the late William and Tina (Ferreira) Nelson. He received his GED in Fall River.
Gary was a United States Vietnam War Army Veteran, and received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Marksman Qualification Badge with rifle bar with one overseas bar.
He was employed by Courier Inc. of Stoughton, MA as a factory worker for 12 years, prior to becoming a Disabled American Veteran.
Gary was a member of the VFW, Ovila Case, Post 905 of Gardner.
He loved music, especially Neil Diamond. He enjoyed playing cribbage and pool, and was an avid candle pin bowler. He enjoyed watching Judge Judy on television and was a huge fan of the New England Patriots. Gary also liked to dine out at his favorite restaurants, Williams Restaurant of Gardner and Peppercorns of Worcester.
He leaves one brother, James W. White of Old Town, Maine; sister-in-law, Dolores Nelson; two aunts, Melvina Medeiros and Ginny Copper; one uncle, Demas Ferreira; one niece, Tammy Carpenter; one nephew, William Nelson, III; several cousins; his good friends, James and Kelly Blanchette and their dog Roxy of Gardner, and Brian Favreau and his sons, Neil and Shawn of Gardner; several friends from Brian's Bowlaway of Gardner, and his best friend Kyle Blanchette. Gary was predeceased by one brother, William F. Nelson.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, November 28th at 1:00 p.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon.
Calling hours will be Friday, November 28th from 11:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. in the funeral home.
