Frank "Grut' Griczika, Jr., 99, of Gardner, died peacefully Sunday, June 28, 2015 in Wachusett Manor Nursing Home, Gardner following a long illness.
Born in Gardner on July 30, 1915, he was the son of the late Frank and Stephanie (Hardacewicz) Griczika.
Frank attended Gardner High School. He was a United States WWII Navy Veteran and received the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon and was authorized to wear Seabee insignia.
He was a laborer with the Fitchburg Local Union for many years working for various construction firms. Frank was a member of the VFW Post 905, Ovila Case of Gardner and was a Life Member and the oldest member of the Polish American Citizens Club of Gardner.
Frank was a free spirit who enjoyed playing pool, going to the racetrack and sharing stories of his many life experiences. He was an avid sports fan who played football for the Gardner Merchants and softball for the Greenwood-Carlton team. Frank also loved animals, especially his dogs.
He leaves his brother, Bronie Griczika of Gardner; daughter Aquillia of Florida; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Frank was predeceased by one brother, Stephen Griczika and two sisters, Josephine Carlson and Amelia Hooper.
Graveside Services will be held Friday, July 3rd at 1:30 p.m. in St. John's Cemetery, West Street, Gardner.
There are no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Gardner Animal Care Facility, with checks made payable to City of Gardner Shelter Fund, c/o Board of Health, 95 Pleasant Street, Rm. 29, Gardner, MA 01440.
