Francois J. Vautour, (88), of 87 Lennon Street, Gardner died peacefully Friday, January 14, 2011 in Heywood Hospital Gardner, following a brief illness.
Born in St. Ignace, N.B. Canada on May 3, 1922, he was the son of the late Alphonse and Rufine (Gallant) Vautour. Francois moved to the United States in 1961.
Prior to retiring in 1987, he was a tractor driver for the Templeton Developmental Center in Templeton for over 18 years. He was previously employed by Collier Keyworth Company of Gardner.
Francois was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church in Gardner. He was also a long time member of the Acadien Social Club of Gardner.
He enjoyed golfing, traveling, playing cards and watching game shows on television. He treasured time spent with his family.
Francois leaves his wife of 63 years, Marguerite M. (Barrieau) Vautour of Gardner; three sons, Yvon J. Vautour and his wife Mary of Gardner, George J. Vautour and his wife Debbie of Litchfield, NH and Alphonse J. Vautour of Baldwinville; three daughters, Ginette Vautour of Athol, Simone Cutler and her husband Stanley of Saco, Maine and Odette Vautour of Ashburnham; one son-in-law, James Carney of Millbury; four brothers, Delphin Vautour and his wife Julianna of St. Ignace, N.B. Canada, Eddy Vautour of St. Charles, N.B. Canada, Ernest Vautour and his wife Janeta of Oshawa , Ontario, Canada and Camille Vautour and his wife Clara of St. Louis, N.B. Canada; five sisters, Lydie Richard of Richiboucto Bridge, N.B. Canada; Sister Lionore Vautour of the Congregation de Notre Dame, Pictou Nova Scotia, Canada; Gemma Comeau and her husband Gerald of St. Ignace, N.B. Canada, Lauriane Richard and her husband Marc of St. Anne, N.B. Canada and Marie Robichaud of St. Charles, N.B. Canada; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by one daughter, Delima Carney; one brother, Arthur Vautour; and by two sisters, Edna Daigle and Sister Zelia Vautour of the Congregation de Notre Dame.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, January 20, 2011 from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours in the funeral home are Wednesday, January 19th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
