Francis R. "Lefty" LaFontaine, 81, of 58 Halford Street, Gardner died peacefully surrounded by his family, Monday, July 14th in his home, where he has resided for the past 50 years.
Born in Gardner on June 12, 1927, he was the son of Frank and Eva (King) LaFontaine.
Francis was employed by Foster Grant Co. of Leominster for 32 years as a machine maintenance worker, retiring in 1989. He was previously employed by Florence Stove Co. of Gardner.
Francis was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Gardner. He was also a member of the Napoleon Club, Gardner and the Elks Lodge No. 1426 of Gardner, where he was a past Exalted Ruler.
Mr. LaFontaine was a United States WWII Army Veteran, and received the WWII Victory Medal.
Francis enjoyed playing cribbage, creating wood crafts and watching game shows on television. He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. Francis most enjoyed spending time with his family.
He leaves his wife of 60 years, Eleanor E. (Viner) LaFontaine of Gardner; one son, Ray A. LaFontaine and his wife Kathleen of Fitzwilliam, NH; one daughter, June E. Klockars and her husband William of Winchendon; four grandchildren, Kim LaPointe and her husband Chris, Lisa Klockars, Lance and Eric LaFontaine; one great-grandchild, Tyler Klockars; one aunt, Pauline LaRoche of Gardner; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 16th at 10:30 a.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours in the funeral home are Wednesday, July 16th from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
