Florine M. Duplessis, 88, of 447 Hill St., Whitinsville, died peacefully Monday, February 18th in the St. Camillus Health Center, Whitinsville following a short illness.
Born in Bouctouche, NB, Canada on December 31, 1919, she was the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Cormier) Duplessis.
Florine was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, Gardner.
At the age of 17 she joined the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary. Florine taught school in the New Hampshire and Rhode Island areas, then in the Philippine Islands where she founded a Novitiate. She also spent a few years in England. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Rivier College in Nashua, NH and her Master's Degree in English from Boston University. In 1973 Florine settled in the Manchester, NH where she continued to teach and tutor as a lay person.
She leaves 2 brothers, Bertrand Duplessis and his wife Janice , Martin Duplessis and his wife Beverly, all of Otter River; 4 sisters, Doris Meunier and her husband Roger of E. Templeton, Valerie Vallee of Linwood, Ruth Allard, and Anna-Mary Durand and her husband Pierre all of Ware; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and 2 sisters-in-law, Anne Duplessis of Deep River, CT and Judith Ashworth of Weare, NH. She was predeceased by 5 brothers, Rev. Omer Duplessis, Donald, Howard, Aldei and Rudy Duplessis and an infant sister, Marie Duplessis.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 21st at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols St., Gardner. Burial will be at Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.
There are no calling hours.
