Ferdinand A"Fred" LeBlanc

Ferdinand A. "Fred" LeBlanc, 78, of 318 Central St., Gardner, died Wednesday, December 17th in the Veterans Hospice Homestead, Fitchburg, following an illness.
Born in Gardner on September 17, 1930, he was the son of Alphonse and Elise (Fougere) LeBlanc.
Fred was a carpenter employed by the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America in Boston for many years until retiring in 1992. Several years ago he was a kitchen helper at the Paramount Café in Gardner.
He attended local schools and was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church. Fred was a member of V.F.W. Ovila Case, Post 905 of Gardner and the Carpenters Union of America. He enjoyed doing yard work, crossword puzzles and especially spending time with his grandson, Logan. At the age of 21 he was credited with saving lives when he rescued several people from a burning building in Washington, D.C.
He was a Korean War U.S. Army Veteran and received the Army of Occupation Medal-Japan, Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze service stars, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation and the Combat Infantry Badge.
He leaves 3 sons, Glen Saulnier and his wife Cheryl of Phenix, Alabama, Robert Saulnier and his wife Susan of Columbus, GA, and Billy Saulnier and his wife Vicki of Gardnr; 2 daughters, Lisa Gray of Gardner and Jane Saulnier of Sudbury; 1 sister-in-law, Kathy LeBlanc of Florida; 5 grandchildren, Logan Gray, Lindsey Restreppo, Heidi, Wendy and Rae-Anne Saulnier; 2 great-grandchildren, Lilu DeSilva, Landon Restroppo;
2 nephews, Jim LeBlanc of Clinton, Ricky Boutell of Florida; 2 nieces, Karen Delorey of Lynchburg, VA, Lynda LeBlanc of Barre. He was loved by many. He was predeceased by 2 sisters, Ida Sisk and Irene Boutell; and by 3 brothers, Roger, Jimmy and Mike LeBlanc;
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 26th at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols St., Gardner. Burial of cremains will be in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon.
There are no calling hours.
