Everett E. "Ev" Hines, 79, of 20 Ellis Rd., Westminster, died Saturday, December 4th surrounded by his family at the home of his son, Glen E. Hines of 35 Wachusett St., Leominster, following an illness.
Born in Fitchburg on July 30, 1925, he was the son of Earlston E. and Theda (Ball) Hines.
Mr was a superintendant employed by the Highway Department of Westminster for 19 years, retiring in 1965. He previously sold heavy equipment and was a construction superintendent for various construction companies.
He was a member of St. Edward the Confessor Church. Mr. Hines was a member of the Westminster Cemetery Commission, Massachusetts Highway Association and Chairman of Little League where he was assistant coach for several years. He was instrumental in establishing the "Urn Garden" at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Westminster. With his wife he co-founded the Westminster Youth Center.
Mr. Hines was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran and received the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Ribbon and the American Theatre Campaign Ribbon.
His wife of 51 years, Elsie A. (Girard) Hines, died December 11, 2003.
He leaves a son, Glen E. Hines and wife Linda L. of Leominster; 1 sister, Norma Ferris of St. Augustine, FL; 2 grandsons Gregory and Geoffrey Hines; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 8th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St., Gardner with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols St., Gardner. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Westminster at a later date.
Calling hours at the funeral home are Tuesday, December 7th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
