Ernest R. Roy, 86, of 32 Hospital Hill Rd., Gardner and formerly of 36 Marquette St., Gardner, died Tuesday, April 5th in Heywood Hospital, Gardner, following an illness.
Born in Gardner on April 18, 1918, he was the son of Edmund and Orianna (Fleurant) Roy.
He was a security guard employed by the former Gardner State Hospital for 7 years until retiring in 1976. He was formerly a woodworker employed by the former Thayer Mfg. Co. and Heywood-Wakefield Co., both of Gardner.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church.
He enjoyed playing shuffleboard and traveling.
He leaves his wife of 65 years, Stella M. (Robichaud) Roy of Avon, CT; 2 sons, Robert A. Roy of Ashburnham and Raymond L. Roy of Gardner; 2 brothers Edmond E. Roy of Athol and Jean R. Roy of Gardner; 2 sisters, Gertrude L. LeBlanc of Cleveland, OH and Theresa L. Kullman of Fitchburg; 4 grandchildren Kerry Russell of Peru, IN, Timothy Roy of West Hartford, CT, Stephanie A. and Thomas P. Roy both of Gardner; 3 great-grandchildren Cheyenne and Nathaniel Russell of Peru, IN, Oliver L. Roy of West Hartford, CT; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
All services are private and will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.
There are no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
The Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St., Gardner is in charge of arrangements.
