Ernest J. Barrieault, 87, of 59 Eastwood Circle, Gardner, formerly of 125 Connors Street, Gardner died Tuesday, August 19th in the Leo P. LaChance Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing, Gardner, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Gardner on September 9, 1920, he was the son of the late Pierre and Marguerite (Poirier) Barrieault.
Prior to retiring in 1985, Ernest was a press operator employed by Gardner Screw Corporation of Gardner for 15 years.
Ernest was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, Gardner. He was also a member of the V.F.W. Ovila Case Post 905 of Gardner.
Ernest loved to travel, and in 2005 he drove alone to Alaska. He enjoyed fishing and listening to "old time" music.
Ernest was a WWII United States Army Veteran, and received the Good Conduct Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon and the Purple Heart.
He is survived by one son, Raymond J. Barrieault and his wife Tina of Gardner with whom he recently lived with for a short time; two daughters, Leola M. Lajoie and her husband Ronald of Port Orange, FL and Denise A. Lorandeau and her husband Paul of York, ME; eleven grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one son, Donald P. Barrieault who died in 1990; one daughter, SueAnne E. Richard who died in 1968; four brothers, Louis, Edgar, Aime and Jules Barrieault; four sisters, Roseanna Groder, Julia Gammon, Eva Marie Belliveau, and Marie Beck; and one granddaughter, Mindy Barrieault who died in 1996.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, August 30th at 10:00 a.m. in Notre Dame Cemetery, West Street, Gardner.
There are no calling hours.
