Eric J. Bastarache, 68, of Gardner, formerly of Westminster and Fitchburg, died peacefully at home Saturday, January 14, 2012 after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 47 years, Emilienne M. (Maillet) Bastarache; a daughter Kathy Goyette and her husband Clinton of Princeton; three brothers, Amedee of Saint Marie de Kent, New Brunswick, Ronald of Gardner, Alonzo of Saint Antoine, New Brunswick and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Donat and Aldeo Bastarache, and a sister Alfreda Bastarache.
Eric was born in Saint Norbert, New Brunswick, Canada, son of Alfred and Rita (Roy) Bastarache, immigrating to the United States in 1962.
He had worked as a laborer for Local 39 and was also the sole proprietor of Eric's Auto Sales in Gardner many years ago.
Throughout his life, Eric had a great sense of humor, using his quick wit to deliver one-liners, even during his illness. He enjoyed cooking and entertaining for family and friends, was an auto enthusiast and dedicated New England sports fan.
Every fall would bring new excitement and joy when hunting season would begin. Eric would travel to Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire and New Brunswick to hunt. He took great pleasure in the outdoors, hiking miles at a time with his dog for a glimpse at wildlife in its natural habitat.
He was a former member of Saint Joseph Parish in Fitchburg.
There are no calling hours. Funeral services and burial are private.
