Emilien "Emile" J. Richard, 88, of 28 Osgood St., Gardner, died peacefully Thursday, April 30th in UMASS Medical Center - University Campus, Worcester, following a short illness.
Born in Bouctouche, NB, Canada on December 24, 1920, he was the son of Fidele and Anna (DesRoches) Richard.
Mr. Richard was a finish furniture sprayer employed by the former Heywood-Wakefield Co. of Gardner for 26 years. He was employed by S. Bent Mfg. Co. of Gardner for 8 years, retiring in 1988. He was a part-time rural route delivery person for the Gardner News.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church.
Emile was a past president and treasurer of the Acadien Social Club. He was a member of the Canadien Legion, American Legion Post 129 of Gardner, Canadien Cardon York Regiment, First Special Force Devils Brigade of the United States and Canada. He enjoyed reading about history, traveling, especially to New Brunswick, running, watching television game shows, boxing, fishing, hunting, gun collecting and enjoying breakfast at "The Thirsty Turtle". He enjoyed the outdoors and especially loved his family.
He leaves his wife of 61 years, Helen (Allain) Richard of Gardner; 1 son, Omer C. Richard and his wife Phyllis of Gardner; 2 daughters, Dianne A. Hunt of Gardner, Lucy M. Morrill of Essex, VT; 2 brothers, Alfred Richard and his wife Nola of Richibucto, NB, Canada, Henry Richard and his wife Diana of Bouctouche, NB, Canada; 4 sisters, Lena Gauvreau and her husband Ben of Ontario, Canada, Alice Nowlan, Annette Legere and her husband Romeo "Joe" of Moncton, NB, Canada, Florence Girouard and her husband Paul of Cocagne, NB, Canada; 9 grandchildren, Lisa Rhodes, Heather Ferrari, Rowland Hunt Jr., Kolby, Devin, Keith Morrill, Kristin, Justin, Danielle, Amanda Richard; 8 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by 3 brothers, Omer, Adelard, Guy Richard, 2 sisters, Aline and Marie-Mae Richard.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 5th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St., Gardner with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols St., Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Monday, May 4th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
