Emile O. (Mimi) Gallant 76, of 194 Central Street, Gardner died peacefully Friday, July 14th in Wachusett Manor Nursing Home, Gardner, following a short illness.
Born on October 16, 1929 in Rumford, Maine, he was the son of Joseph O. and Catherine (Daigle) Gallant.
Emile was a self-employed floor installer for several years, retiring in 1994.
He previously worked at Gallants Furniture in Gardner.
He graduated from Gardner High School in 1947.
Emile was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church in Gardner. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #747 of Gardner, the American Legion, Post 129 of Gardner and the Gardner Merchants Football League.
He enjoyed reading, cooking, sports and skiing.
Emile was U.S. Navy Korean War Veteran and received the National Service Defense Medal.
He is survived by three sons, Richard Gallant and his wife Cynthia of Leominster, Joseph Gallant and his wife Nancy of Wilmington, N.C., Tim Gallant and his wife Sherry of Ashburnham; five daughters, Jeanne M. Clark- Isola and husband William of Gardner, Nancy Apholt and husband Donald of Oakham, Mary-Lynn Crocker and husband Larry of Charlestown, N.H., Christine Deslauriers and husband Phillip. and Jacqueline Vartanian all of Ellenton, FL.; one brother, Roland J. Gallant and his wife Claudette of Gardner; nine grandchildren, Kim Clark, Josh and Lauren Apholt, Ryan, Beth, Brandon and Rachel Gallant, Jaryd and Regan Vartanian' 1 great-grandchild, Angelina Torrez; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He also leaves his former spouse Aline (Richard) (Gallant) Rotti of Sarasota, FL. Emile was predeceased by three brothers, Benoit, Edmond and Gerard Gallant.
Memorial committal service will be held Wednesday, July 19th at 2:00 pm. in the Massachusetts Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Winchendon.
There are no calling hours.
