Emerson C. Van Cott, Jr., 65, of 16295 Davis Road, Fort Myers, FL died Wednesday, September 23rd in Health Park Medical Center, Fort Myers, FL, following a long illness.
Born in Worcester, MA on December 30, 1943, he was the son of the late Emerson C. and Angela (Leveillee) Van Cott, Sr.
Prior to retiring in 2000, Emerson was the Postmaster for the Templeton Post Office, Templeton for 29 years.
Emerson graduated from Rutgers University, New Jersey in 1978, with an Associates Degree in Substance Abuse Counseling.
He was a United States Vietnam War Army Veteran, and was an expert with rifle and pistol, was a first class gunner and sharpshooter. Emerson received the Parachute Badge and the National Defense Service Medal.
He was a member of Holy Cross Church, East Templeton.
Emerson was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite, a Royal and Select Mason, and a Free Mason with Hope Lodge of Gardner.
He enjoyed playing golf and working around the house. Emerson was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous, and had attained 28 years of sobriety.
He leaves three sons, Justin C. Van Cott and his wife Elizabeth of Gardner, Kevin A. Van Cott of Westborough and Kenneth C. Van Cott and his wife Pamela of Dayville, CT; two daughters, Charlene V. Van Cott of Northborough and Kristine A. Van Cott - Nosbisch and her husband Charles of Keystone Heights, FL; one brother, Lawrence Van Cott, Sr. of North Brookfield; one sister, Marjorie MacDonald of Douglas; his former wife, Robin (Murphy) Van Cott of Gardner; six grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers, Raymond Van Cott and Paul Van Cott, Sr.; and by two sisters, Eleanor Berthiaume and Ann Marie Van Cott.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 29th at 10:00 a.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner. Rev. Brian O'Toole of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, Gardner will officiate. Burial will be in the MA Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon.
Calling hours in the funeral home will be Monday, September 28th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
