Elsie A. "El" Hines

July 16, 1927 — December 11, 2003

Elsie A. "El" (Girard) Hines, 76, of 20 Ellis Rd., Westminster, died Thursday in her residence following an illness.
Born in Fitchburg on July 16, 1927, she was the daughter of Arthur and Evangeline (Rogers) Girard.
She was employed by the former Something Special of Gardner and previously was owner and manager of El's Trimme Towne of Westminster for 27 years.
She was a 1945 graduate of Fitchburg High School.
Mrs. Hines was a member of St. Edward the Confessor Church of Westminster, a member of the Family Life Committee, and was a lector and Sunday School teacher at St. Edward the Confessor. She was also a member of Holy Cross Church, East Templeton. She was chairwoman of the Cub Scouts' Drives, Den mother of Troop 33 of Westminster, Chairwoman of the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association, Youth Center Director of Westminster, strong pro-life advocate, treasurer of the Westminster Women's Club and served as a nurses' aide at Burbank Hospital, Fitchburg, during World War II. In 1995 she was awarded the 'Employee of the Year' award by Gardner Square Two.
She was an avid gardener and sports fan.
She leaves her husband of 51 years, Everett E. Hines of Westminster; 1 son, Glenn E. Hines and his wife, Linda L. Hines of Leominster; 1 brother, Raymond A. Girard of Phoenix, AZ; 3 sisters, Dorothy Rivetts of Leominster, Rita B. Millette and Nancy Y. Fournier, both of Fitchburg; 2 grandsons, Gregory and Geoffrey Hines of Leominster; 4 godchildren, Raymond Girard of Northfield, Bruce Millette, Peter Krawchuk, both of Fitchburg and James Barrett of Westminster; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, Arthur J. Girard.
Funeral services will be held Saturday from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St., Gardner with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Cross Church, Lake Ave., East Templeton. Burial in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Westminster, will be at a later date.

Calling hours at the funeral home are Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
